[07:24] <@Calum> haha, I wish. Bank holidays do not exist where I work.
[07:25] <Mulreay> Sorry to hear that bud
[07:25] <@Calum> ah, doesn't matter heh
[07:30] <camerongray> hey Calum

[07:32] <@GlitchPC> Good morning and Happy Easter to All!
[07:32] <Mulreay> Happy Easter GlitchPC
[07:32] <@Calum> happy easter boss
[07:33] <@GlitchPC> Afternoon, Boss!
[07:33] <@Calum> heh
[07:33] <@GlitchPC> Tell your mum thanks for registering
[07:33] <@Calum> heh, will do
[07:33] <@GlitchPC> I knew the arcade would pull her back in
[07:34] <@Calum> hehe yeah, for all the posts she will make...I'll do my best to get her contributing
[07:34] <@GlitchPC> BTW...are you having any issues with the arcade as far as it saving your high scores?
[07:34] <@Calum> I haven't had any issues, no....why?
[07:34] <Mulreay> not me
[07:34] <@GlitchPC> I installed a couple of IBPro Arcade games...
[07:34] <@GlitchPC> Missile Command being one of them...and it saved my first high score, but not subsequent ones
[07:35] <@Calum> ah
[07:35] <@Calum> I'll have to test this...sigh, playing games....not how I want to spend my time....:P
[07:35] * camerongray (camerongra@mib-69D350B8.plusnet.thn-ag3.dyn.plus.net) has joined #glitchpc
[07:35] <@GlitchPC> I thought it was the game...so I uninstalled it
[07:36] <@GlitchPC> Yes, please let me know if you have any issues
[07:36] <camerongray> hey glitch
[07:36] <@GlitchPC> I have a support request in at the vendors site
[07:36] <camerongray> grr, this PC is so slow to boot
[07:36] <@GlitchPC> Hello, Mulreay
[07:36] <@GlitchPC> Hello, camerongray
[07:36] <@Calum> I will, I'll give the games a try soon
[07:36] <@GlitchPC> tyt Calum
[07:37] <@GlitchPC> Ajax trophies are in the postbit...so it lets others know what you're the champion of if you place your mouse over the tropy
[07:37] <@GlitchPC> trophy*
[07:37] <@Calum> cool
[07:38] <@GlitchPC> Then there's the Arcade Statistics tab in one's profile
[07:38] <@GlitchPC> So...I'm liking this over the other one
[07:38] <@GlitchPC> mainly because it's XHTML compliant
[07:38] <@Calum> yeah, sounds good
[07:39] <@GlitchPC> Will see what I can do about getting Missile Command and the others back
[07:39] <@GlitchPC> Calum...got time ot PM?
[07:39] <@Calum> sure
[07:39] <@GlitchPC> to*
[07:40] <camerongray> Quick Question:
[07:40] <camerongray> Any reasons why this PC takes AGES to boot
[07:41] <camerongray> Very little running at startup
[07:41] <camerongray> Frequently Defragged
[07:41] <@Calum> slow HD?
[07:41] <camerongray> might be
[07:41] <camerongray> It is slow - 2.5 Windows experience index
[07:41] <@Calum> when does the slowdown seem to be? From when it starts loading Windows, or before?
[07:41] <camerongray> starting loading windows
[07:42] <camerongray> takes a while before but it is normal, GPU info, Post, RAID Card stuff, Stuff about PnP BIOS installing HDD, Checking NVRAM, Windows
[07:43] <camerongray> Would I be faster connecting the HDD to the mobo rather than a RAID card
[07:43] <@Calum> it shouldn't make a difference in the HDD speed either way
[07:43] <camerongray> ahh, cool
[07:43] <@Calum> RAID card would just slow down the POST sequence
[07:44] <camerongray> yeh, I only use the RAID card as I can't connect all my IDE drives to the MOBO
[07:44] <camerongray> It's a Seagate 160gb IDE, I'll get the model
[07:44] <@Calum> fair enoigh. Just saying, it's not a bad thing, just that they do add time to the POST sequence, but shouldn't make the HD any slower
[07:45] <camerongray> cool
[07:45] <camerongray> It's Windows 7 32bit
[07:45] <camerongray> I upgraded
[07:45] <camerongray> It was lightning fast on XPx64 and Vista
[07:46] <@Calum> you upgraded from Vista then? Rather than a clean install?
[07:47] <camerongray> Clean install/ish from XP Home, Used upgrade media
[07:47] <camerongray> But did a format/install
[07:47] <@Calum> yeah, that shouldn't be causing issues then
[07:47] <@Calum> you got the right drivers installed?
[07:49] <camerongray> No issued in device manager
[07:49] <camerongray> used the disks that came with the mobo/gpu
[07:50] <camerongray> HDD Info --> http://imagebin.ca/img/yZBUGX.jpg
[07:53] <@Calum> It's an older drive then which might account for the slow boot time
[07:54] <camerongray> yeh, got it 2nd hand from Cex
[07:57] * camerongray is very cheap and should get a job
[07:57] <@Calum> heh
[07:58] <camerongray> should I try to get a basic SATA drive?
[07:59] <@Calum> it might be worth it...if you stand by a while I may have one I can throw your way, for postage costs, friend is giving me a relatively new PC soon
[07:59] <camerongray> cool
[07:59] <camerongray> Would it be easy to move Windows onto a new drive without reinstalling even if the new one is larger?
[07:59] * GlitchPC (Mibbit@mib-3E0BE34.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[07:59] <@Calum> yeah, use a program called Macrium Reflect to clone it
[08:00] <@Calum> one thing though - a drive being SATA doesn't necessarily make it fast, look at the model number more than anything
[08:00] * GlitchPC (Mibbit@mib-3E0BE34.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) has joined #glitchpc
[08:00] * ChanServ sets mode: +q
[08:00] * ChanServ sets mode: +o GlitchPC
[08:01] <camerongray> cool
[08:01] <camerongray> Is the free edition fine?
[08:02] <@Calum> yeah, it's what I use
[08:02] <@Calum> exellent program
[08:02] <@Calum> *excellent
[08:05] <camerongray> cool, what should I look for when buying one
[08:05] <camerongray> I also thought, if I can find a cheap external one with a SATA drive, could I rip it apart for the drive?
[08:05] <@Calum> depends how much you want to spend, really
[08:05] <@Calum> yeah, definitely
[08:06] <camerongray> just a cheap one
[08:06] <@Calum> I wouldn't look at anything older than a Seagate 7200.10 series
[08:06] <@Calum> not sure of the other manufacturer's equivalents
[08:07] <camerongray> I'm thinking a new one, just cheap - ?40 max
[08:07] <camerongray> 250gb or so
[08:08] <@Calum> slightly over that price, 500GB - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-206-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=940
[08:08] <camerongray> mmm
[08:08] <camerongray> might get that
[08:08] <@Calum> cheaper/less capacity versions are around too, that model was great for me
[08:10] <@Calum> and FYI, only linked to overclockers because I know the stock codes heh, not trying to force you to purchase from there :)
[08:11] <Mulreay> calum the salesman
[08:11] <@Calum> heh
[08:11] <camerongray> lol
[08:14] <@Calum> if I turned on the charm I'd have you buying all sorts of stuff
[08:14] <@Calum> I do it over the systems support phone all the time without meaning to
[08:14] <@GlitchPC> Can someone buy me a Porsche?
[08:14] <Mulreay> heh
[08:15] <@Calum> if I could afford it, buddy....I'd buy myself omne
[08:15] <@Calum> *one
[08:15] <@GlitchPC> heh
[08:15] <@GlitchPC> not until you got mine first
[08:15] <@Calum> heh, so that's how it is....
[08:15] <@GlitchPC> oops...did i say that out loud?
[08:15] <@Calum> hah
[08:16] <@GlitchPC> !seen *tpgi*
[08:16] <@GlitchPC> Calum...keep an eye out for this guy...just don't trust him
[08:16] <@Calum> sure thing
[08:18] <@GlitchPC> Later guys
[08:18] <@Calum> ah! JJ overtook me in F@H, I just noticed, bah
[08:18] <@GlitchPC> uh-oh
[08:18] <@GlitchPC> It's all good
[08:18] <camerongray> brb - Mum having "PC Disaster"
[08:18] <@Calum> that won;t stand for long, I just need a new heatsink and I'm back in the game, will be rewriting the guides with screenshots too
[08:18] <Mulreay> heh
[08:19] <@Calum> heh
[08:19] <@GlitchPC> I'm only folding with my two CPUs
[08:19] <camerongray> fake antivirus got past MSE - On goes Avast
[08:19] <@Calum> heh
[08:20] * GlitchPC (Mibbit@mib-3E0BE34.hsd1.nj.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[08:20] <@Calum> I could get folding now, but I want to wait till I have my new heatsink so I can clock my new quad higher, current one isn;t up to the task of 3GHz+ unfortunately
[08:29] <camerongray> cool - what quad?
[08:30] <@Calum> Q6600, it's not "new" but I got it at a great price from a work friend, used
[08:30] <camerongray> cool
[08:30] <camerongray> I think that's better than mine
[08:31] <@Calum> it should be around the same performance, running at a slower clock. I plan to overclock to the max though, he got 3.2Ghz stable out of it but I think I can do better
[08:31] <@Calum> I got 3GHz very easily this morning, just had to back off due to a rubbish cooler
[08:31] <camerongray> cool, I'm too scared to overclock mine
[08:32] <@Calum> heh
[08:32] <@Calum> Overclocking isn;t dangerous unless you're stupid, and raise the voltage like crazy
[08:32] <@Calum> or you overclock and don;t test, and then you corrupt data
[08:33] <camerongray> I'd need a new cooler anyway - TINY heatsink
[08:34] <@Calum> yeah, the stock AMD ones are pretty small, but the CPUs also don't produce much heat.
[08:35] <camerongray> Yeh, I have great temps, especially with the new case
[08:35] <camerongray> Core = 28c at the moment
[08:36] <camerongray> GPU = 35
[08:36] <@Calum> the thing I like about the AMD coolers is they make great contact with the chip, they're much better to install properly than the idiotic Intel pushpins
[08:36] <@Calum> nice temps, very nice
[08:36] <camerongray> Hmm, Temp 3 is great, -128c :P
[08:37] <camerongray> CPU is pretty much room temp, I have the radiator up full
[08:37] <@Calum> AMD cooler mounting system is much superior, better mounting pressure and it's basically foolproof, you 100% know if it;s mounted properly or not whereas sometimes with Intel pushpins, one or two don't fully go in, you think they have but the temps suck.
[08:37] <@Calum> heh
[08:37] <@Calum> nice
[08:37] <@Calum> I'm sitting at 30C CPU, 42C GPU, idle
[08:38] <camerongray> still pretty good
[08:38] <@Calum> the only thing I dislike is my graphics card cooler, it's too loud when I put a load on it unless I drop the fan speed and then it doesn't cool the card properly
[08:38] <camerongray> My GPU is passive but I rigged up a fan pointing right at it
[08:38] <@Calum> cool (pun intended)
[08:38] <camerongray> lol
[08:40] <camerongray> Any tips on stopping dust in the new case
[08:41] <@Calum> difficult really...it's hard to fit "normal" dust filters in the 900
[08:42] <@Calum> you could rig up some homemade filters, and they would be a good help....other than that, dust it regularly, and keep the surrounding area clean
[08:42] <@Calum> try to keep it off the floor if possible. Also, invest in a can of compressed air
[08:46] * sonicrules1234 (sonicrules@mib-6494DB2B.lsanca.dsl-w.verizon.net) has joined #glitchpc
[08:48] <camerongray> cool
[08:48] <camerongray> I can't keep it off the floor though
[08:48] <camerongray> putting it on the desk would be worse, you can't imagine the mess
[08:49] <@Calum> When I had that case I kept it on my desk. My newer case is too big and heavy for the desk, so I got 2 boards just to keep it an inch or so off the floor
[08:49] <camerongray> cool, I might do that
[08:50] <@Calum> it does cut down on dust intake more than you might expect

[08:55] <@Calum> oh, sweet
[08:55] <@GlitchPC> preliminary*
[08:55] <@GlitchPC> I may just combine the two
[08:56] <sonicrules1234> Ugg, this one channel is really annoying me. They banned me for suggesting that they should follow the TOS and not post links to porn >.<
[08:56] <@Calum> nice
[08:56] <@GlitchPC> the new one will be of Glitch laying on his back under an umbrella with a nice cold drink
[08:56] <@Calum> sonic - report them to the Mibbit ops
[08:56] <@Calum> glitch - haha, cold drink of oil I presume?
[08:56] <@Calum> non-alcoholic?
[08:56] <@GlitchPC> lmao
[08:57] <@Calum> child-friendly site and all that....
[08:57] <@Calum> wouldn;t want to give the wrong impression :)
[08:57] <@GlitchPC> It's that time of year when the weather permits that sort of behavior
[08:57] <sonicrules1234> Calum: I told pottsi, and I got an apology from one of the ops, but on the last line, they said they were still right and said they weren't breaking any rules
[08:57] <@GlitchPC> LOL!
[08:57] <sonicrules1234> And I am still banned
[08:57] <sonicrules1234> :P
[08:57] <@Calum> that's true, unless you live here and we get snow
[08:57] <@GlitchPC> Sorry for interrupting
[08:57] <@Calum> sonic - well...not much more you can do, I guess.
[08:58] <@Calum> glitch - no interruption there, no worries
[08:58] <@GlitchPC> kk
[08:58] <@GlitchPC> The Easter Bunny brought me some Haribo Gummi Bears
[08:58] <@GlitchPC> I love those
[08:58] <@GlitchPC> I'm addicited
[08:58] <@Calum> heh, I haven;t had those for ages, I love them too
[08:59] <@GlitchPC> I remember as a kid in Germany
[08:59] <@GlitchPC> A candy truck used to come around the neighborhood
[08:59] <sonicrules1234> GlitchPC: My mom said we don't get our candy until the afternoon for some reason :(
[08:59] <@GlitchPC> I'd save up money to buy those
[09:00] <@GlitchPC> She probably wants to make sure you eat properly before spoiling any of your meals today
[09:00] <@Calum> heh
[09:00] <@Calum> I've had about a week's worth of sugar today and about to ingest more
[09:00] <@Calum> so much for being a responsible adult
[09:00] <@GlitchPC> mmmm....sugar!
[09:00] <sonicrules1234> Well, I would understand if she did it for just breakfast
[09:00] <sonicrules1234> But she's doing it for lunch too >.<
[09:00] <@GlitchPC> that's what I mean
[09:01] <@GlitchPC> She wants to get the most important meals out of the way first
[09:01] <@GlitchPC> This way...you don't eat as much candy
[09:01] <@GlitchPC> Adults are smart...
[09:01] <@Calum> heh
[09:01] <@GlitchPC> well...most adults
[09:01] <Mulreay> camerongray you there buddy?
[09:02] <@GlitchPC> Anyone seen Serpent?
[09:02] <@GlitchPC> He's addicted to Mafia Wars now...
[09:02] <Mulreay> only on facefook
[09:02] <@Calum> I haven't seen him lately
[09:03] <@GlitchPC> I'm going to be posting some pics of our car...with the new advertising labels of Glitch PC
[09:03] <@GlitchPC> As soon as I get a round tuit
[09:03] <@Calum> heh, nice
[09:03] <@GlitchPC> Round Tuits are expensive, though
[09:04] <@Calum> heh

[09:05] <@GlitchPC> Mulreay...how's the PC infection?
[09:06] <@GlitchPC> CH fix ya up yet?
[09:07] <Mulreay> I fixed it myself GlitchPC, CH had me running looooots of tests and nothing came up.. so I went to town on it with various anti-malware software... seems ok now
[09:07] * sonicrules1234 stabs Windoze!
[09:08] <@GlitchPC> Mulreay...nice to know
[09:08] <Mulreay> Had a window of about 4hrs last night running lots of software and a couple of random things came up so I assume one of them was the culprit
[09:08] <Mulreay> thx for asking GlitchPC
[09:09] <@GlitchPC> Mulreay...if it rears its ugly head again...let us know...and we'll reopen the thread that was previously closesd
[09:09] <@GlitchPC> You're welcome
[09:09] <Mulreay> yeah I will do GlitchPC
[09:09] <Mulreay> thx
[09:09] <@GlitchPC> np
[09:10] <Mulreay> I have a question..
[09:10] <@GlitchPC> Calum's really enjoying the Arcade...have ya'll seen how many high scores he has?
[09:10] <@Calum> hehe
[09:10] <@GlitchPC> Mulreay...shoot
[09:10] <Mulreay> How long on average will a HDD (used daily) last for?
[09:10] <Mulreay> roughly
[09:10] <@GlitchPC> on average...and if it's a good drive...average should be about 5 years
[09:10] <sonicrules1234> Mulreay: Depends on the drive
[09:10] <Mulreay> ok
[09:11] <@GlitchPC> depends on usage and environment
[09:11] * sonicrules1234 can't wait till ssd's are cheap and usable
[09:11] <Mulreay> This is 3.5yrs but I'm still trying to build my own
[09:11] <@GlitchPC> I've always been a big fan of WD drives
[09:11] <@Calum> like the man said, depends on a lot of things, but they should be good for a long-ish time, 5 years plus
[09:11] <Mulreay> And I do have a fairly new HDD from Calum which I only store/backup on
[09:12] <@Calum> however, new drives are faster :)
[09:13] <@Calum> I've had WD drives, a Seagate, and now a Samsung, no bad experiences yet
[09:13] <Mulreay> cool
[09:14] <Mulreay> Calum ever heard/dealt with micro direct?
[09:15] <@Calum> heard of them, not dealt with them
[09:15] <Mulreay> Just thinking where to get my bits from.. they seem a little steep
[09:16] <@Calum> only two tech companies I've dealt with are overclockers and dabs
[09:16] <Mulreay> ok
[09:16] <@Calum> can't recommend dabs...also can't recommend Ebuyer, friend had a terrible experience
[09:16] <Mulreay> micro direct is local so easier
[09:16] <@Calum> Aria, CCL and novatech come to mind too, don't know anyone that has dealt with them though
[09:17] <@Calum> (just adding that fyi in case you go elsewhere)
[09:17] <Mulreay> ok
[09:17] <Mulreay> thx

[09:21] <Mulreay> lol

[09:21] <@jacky> ah... Clapton... from when musicians actually could play music.....
[09:21] <@GlitchPC> true dat
[09:21] <Mulreay> Der=ar
[09:22] <Mulreay> Dear Eric... sorry my hand slipped on the keyboard
[09:22] <@GlitchPC> And actually, both versions of Layla are quite good
[09:23] <@jacky> I'm not that much of a conoseur(sp). There were two versions?
[09:23] <@GlitchPC> Yes
